Milngavie Gent's Open 2009

From Jim Preacher:

Milngavie Golf Club recently held its annual Open competition. 135 golfers from 26 clubs from all over the UK took part although it was the local golfers who picked up the silverware.

Ian Jeen won the scratch competition with a 67. Alistair Green won the first class handicap competition with a nett 61 and Norman Thirwell won the second class competition with a nett 64.

But the shot of the day was a drive hit by Justin Sloan from Bellshill Golf Club when he scored a hole in one at the par four, 294 yards, 5th hole.

Milngavie Club Captain Jimmy Crawford said "All golfers dream of having a hole in one and if it happens, it will normally be at a par three, but to have a hole in one at a par four is truly remarkable. We were delighted to present Justin with a bottle of Milngavie Golf Club whisky to mark his achievement"

In golfing terms a hole in one at a par 4 is known as an Albatross, one of the rarest features in golf.

Our picture shows Justin proudly holding the club and ball he used to score his ace:
