Iain's Gardner's Par Round, off the Black Tees!

Ian Gardiner

MGC stalwart Iain Gardner shot a brilliant par round off the black tees! Ian takes up the story, and lays down a challenge to the young bucks:

"I had the pleasure of playing with andrew murrison my usual medal partner in an additional  saturday medal

we were having our usual good competitive game keeping each other honest and matching each other blow for blow for most of the way round.
golf wise it was probably one of the most uneventful boring rounds ever, as we matched each other shot for shot, mainly tee shots on the fairway hitting greens in regulation and holing putts  etc
really nothing outstanding like lots of birdies and double bogies so no great stories there really
as usual andrew and i are very relaxed in each others company  have good  fun and  we mainly chat between shots about the wildlife - condition of the course - where things might be improved - who has been playing well recently and shooting good scores - where we are going on holiday etc - the state of the country - and generally being grumpy old men complaining about things and having our usual laugh at life and each other.
So the round went rather quickly and i was eventually to get my nose ahead  of andrew just before we finished by a couple of shots
when he announced       "iain you just parred the course 68 and are now probably the new black tee record holder  !"
"i never even knew about that andrew " said I
"its on the web site" andrew advised me  !
"gosh do i get a free coffee for that" or words similar, and we had our usual laugh about it. We said it would good winding up the young guns about and old guy setting the record.
all good fun as usual...
anyway its rather nice to be the first to par the course of the black tees and i probably will never achieve it again as my golf is suffering a bit  now due to the old aches and pains from previous sports injuries when i was younger
i am quite sure some of the younger more talented members will break the record very soon however i can always tell them i held the record first!"
"my claim to fame"
