Family success: John and Neill Anderson

Milngavie Golf Club father and son John and Neill Anderson celebrated a fantastic golfing year in 2008. Seven handicapper Neill won the Thistle Trophy, the award for the best play over the medals season. Recently dad John jumped on the bandwagon by achieving the fantastic feat of shooting his age with an amazing gross 72 in a recent medal!

John still managed to come up with the much heard lament " I left a six foot putt a couple of inches short on the 18th. My previous best round of the year was a 78, but I had 4 birdies in this round and generall played very consistently" John added. As a punishment, John's handicap was cut from 13 to 10 under rule 19!

Meanwhile, when asked about his great season, son Neill said, "I can honestly state there is no secret to my success other than to say that I have played far more golf this year, whilst putting in some practice at Milngavie's short game area. A good bit of help has come from my dad, being a past Lanarkshire county player (and a scratch player for several years), as well as being a former club champion of Milngavie. His help at getting the basics correct has been invaluable.

The other factor has been playing with a group of guys, of varying handicaps, who are all very competitive and do not like to be beaten, but at the same time have given me encouragement to keep going when the scores may not be that good on the day"

Everyone at Milngavie are delighted at the success of these two stalwarts of the club!
